DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Sergey Taskaev (Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics)
\nAn accelerator-based neutron source has been proposed and created at the
Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk\, Russia. An original
vacuum insulated tandem accelerator (VITA) is used to provide a proton/deu
teron beam. The ion beam energy can be varied within a range of 0.3–2.3
MeV\, keeping a high-energy stability of 0.1 %. The beam current can also
be varied in a wide range (from 1 nA to 10 mA) with high current stability
(0.4 %). VITA is used to generate a neutron flux via the 7Li(p\,n)7Be or
 7Li(d\,n) reactions\, a-particles through 7Li(p\,a)a and 11B(p\,a)aa react
 ions\, 478 keV photons through 7Li(p\,p’γ)7Li reaction\, and positrons
through 19F(p\,e+e-)16O reaction. \nThe facility is used \n•	to study ra
diation blistering of a metal irradiated with protons\; \n•	for the deve
lopment of boron neutron capture therapy including use in clinics\; \n•
for the treatment of pets with spontaneous tumors\; \n•	for the developm
ent of instruments and methods of dosimetry\; \n•	for testing of new bor
on delivery drugs\; \n•	for radiation testing and modification of promis
 ing materials and electronic devices\, including those for ITER and CERN\;
\n•	for studying the composition of films by back-scattered ions\; \n
 •	for in-depth investigation of the 11B(p\,a)aa neutronless fusion react
ion\; \n•	for studying neutron-induced luminescence of chemical compound
s\; \n•	for measuring cross sections and yields of nuclear reactions\; \
n•	to develop a compact source of fast neutrons\;\n•	etc. \nThe report
will describe the VITA\, present and discuss the results obtained\, and d
eclare plans.\nThis research was supported by Russian Science Foundation\,
