DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Kondo GNANVO (University of Virginia)\nRecent advanc
es in photolithography and micro processing techniques have enabled the em
ergence of Micro Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGDs) such as Gas Electron Mu
ltipliers (GEMs) or Micro Mesh Gaseous Structures (Micromegas) and many ot
her more recent technologies. These new technologies combine the gas ampli
fication principle of gaseous detectors with micro-structure printed circu
its technologies to provide a wide variety of high rate particle tracking
detectors with excellent space and time resolution\, high radiation tolera
nce\, low material and large material capabilities. The RD51 collaboration
is a CERN based international collaboration dedicated to the development
and advancement of the MPGDs technologies for application in both basic an
d applied research and beyond. The RD51 collaboration\, which aims at bri
nging the experts in the field together\, is structured into working group
s that cover several R&D areas including the emergence of new structures\,
technologies and applications\, detector characterization\, large scale
production and test facilities\, simulations studies\, software developmen
t and most importantly the development of associated readout electronics.
In this talk\, we will give a brief and comprehensive overview of the RD51
collaboration and MPGDs-related detector development and R&D. In a second
part of the talk\, we will be present the newly emerging US-based MPGD co
mmunities and the ongoing R&D activities for future colliders and fixed ta
rget experiments. Finally\, future RD51 projects and plans will be summari
 zed.\n\nhttps://indico.inp.nsk.su/event/20/contributions/795/
