Description

V.G. Serbo (Novosibirsk State University) "Effects of strong electromagnetic field in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions" Abstract: In collisions of relativistic nuclei of gold (the RHIC collider) or lead (the LHC collider) electric and magnetic fields may exceed by several orders of magnitude the critical Schwinger field, but these fields act during a very short time. In such conditions one can use perturbation theory, but the corresponding parameter $Z\alpha\approx 0.6$ is not small. It means that the whole series in $Z\alpha$ has to be summed to obtain the cross section with sufficient accuracy. In this report I present a small review about our recent activity related to electromagnetic processes at the RHIC and LHC colliders. It includes such topics as: Strong-field effects in the lepton pair production; Large contribution of the virtual Delbr\"uck scattering into nuclear bremsstrahlung and Production of bound-free $e^+e^-$ pairs.
