Description
We apply modern multiloop methods to the calculation of the total cross section of the process $e^+e^-\to \gamma\gamma(\gamma)$ with accuracy $O(\alpha^3)$. We obtain the result for arbitrary energies and analyze the high-energy asymptotics. We discuss the origin of the disagreement of our result with some results available in the literature. In particular, we find that some terms contributing to the leading high-energy asymptotics were overlooked in the well-known paper by Berends and Kleiss.
