Description

The Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) is designed as 4π spectrometer to study heavy-ion collisions at the Nuclotron-based heavy Ion Collider fAcility at JINR. At the designed luminosity the event rate in the MPD is ~7kHz and charge particle multiplicity ~1000. A superconducting 5m diameter solenoid is equiped with a inner tracking system based on silicon microstrip detector, large volume time-projection chamber, time-of-flight system based on RPC, electromagnetic calorimeter, endcap tracker and a series of fast trigger detectors.
