Description
The energy recovery linear accelerator of the Novosibirsk free electron laser has unique characteristics necessary for high-power lasing in the infrared and terahertz ranges. The repetition rate of electron bunches can be several MHz, the duration of an individual bunch is several picoseconds and the energy is about 40 MeV. Such electron beam can be used as a source of the X-rays. For this purpose, a thin foil was installed on the orbit of the accelerator and the electron bunches passing through it generated short pulses of bremsstrahlung. The article discusses the possibilities of creating such a source and the results of experiments.
